Fern Empowerment Foundation has engaged with Kayayei in Accra as part of activities to mark the Menstrual Hygiene Day on 28th May,2021.
This engagement follows the Foundation’s two-hour event with the students of St. Bakhita School Complex at the Odumase Krobo district in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
These two events was in commemoration of the Menstrual Hygiene Day that is observed each year on May 28 to highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management at a global level.
Observing the day under the theme, ‘More Action and Investment in Menstrual Health and Hygiene Now!’, Fern Empowerment Foundation educated the Kayayeis on the importance of menstrual hygiene and some healthy practices they must follow.
Additionally, the organization made donation of some sanitary items.
Co-Founder of Fern Empowerment Foundation, Ruth Yamoah, addressing the Kayayei, during the event, made known: “We understand how tedious your work demands however it’s your health first. You have to make conscious efforts to practice proper Menstrual hygiene management to avoid infections and diseases that are deadly. Sleep and rest are part of proper Menstrual Health and hygiene management and I recommend that”.
On her part, Ms. Betty Essien, a director at Fern Empowerment Foundation also addressed the need for proper disposal of sanitary materials to avoid the eyesight of other people.
