Fern Empowerment Foundation, a non-governmental organization that focuses on education and children’s development, has embarked on a reading project dubbed ‘Kiddies’ Reading and Art’ project.
The project which began on Saturday, 1st August, 2020 is set to continue for the next three months, that is August, September and October.
The first edition saw an interaction between facilitators of the project and children at the Christ Faith Foster Home in a sound and safe environment amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Children were taken through a two-hour reading session coupled with fun activities such as finding keywords, colouring of book characters among others. Children took turns in reading paragraphs from designated books.
While engaging in this educative yet fun activities, facilitators ensured that children observed health protocols such as the washing of hands, social distancing and the use of hand sanitizers.
Co-founder of the Fern Empowerment Foundation, Ruth Yamoah, speaking on the rationale behind this project commented: “The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted our educational processes and truthfully, no one is to be blamed for that. We at Fern Empowerment Foundation, have however seen the need to keep our children informed and educated. This is why we are embarking on this project to ensure that these children don’t miss out on education”.
Ruth Yamoah thanked all those who contributed to the event and called on all corporate bodies, religious organizations and individuals to support this initiative by the foundation. “We welcome all who would like to support this initiative for the benefit of our children”, she added.
